It still boggles my mind how many of the people I talk to haven’t the foggiest idea how far down the rabbit hole we really are in terms of our national debt. Our country is doomed to follow in the footsteps of the Roman Empire and other world leaders who got too big for the britches and neglected to realize what it is that made them successful. Without a swift kick in the pants, I don’t think the majority of Americans will ever wake up to what’s really going on and how it all affects them, both indirectly and directly.

It can be an uphill battle at times trying to educate people on such things as most shy away from discussing politics in fear of offending someone, sounding stupid or by not realizing its personal significance in their day-to-day lives. It saddens me that some people williningly hand over their great power as American citizens to government officials, trusting they have our best interest at heart out of fear or laziness (the main reason is still yet to be detirmined). This is not the American way.

“I hope my work will create conversation and reach people on a deeper level,” as stated on McNaughton’s website. “I like to use metaphor and multiple levels of meaning to reach my viewer. If it makes them think and feel, then it is successful.”

Some Americans refuse to lie down and give up their rights. They will do whatever they can (as small and insignificant as it may seem in the greater scheme of things) to preserve the American way our forefathers set before us. One such great American is John McNaughton, an artist who has been labeled “controversial” and many more malicious attacks by the left for his subtle, yet obvious paintings depicting President Obama stepping on the Constitution, enslaving American citizens with his un-American policies and other scenarios. For those quick to judge, McNaughton explains his position behind the work. “I don’t place all the blame on Obama. On my website I try to explain what each president has done,” he said. “The thing I like about the painting is that it does get people talking.” McNaughton definitely has a lot of people talking and regardless of your political or sociological beliefs, talking about these issues will only lead to a more informed American public.
