When rapper Wyclef Jean came to legendary guitar designer and builder, Jimmy DiResta, he had a custom guitar in mind like no other. DiResta was to build an AK-47 assault rifle guitar that was to be fully functional and “revolutionary.” Wyclef named their creation “The GATTAR” and his response to the backlash of his AK-47 gun was a metaphor that music is a weapon. It’s supposed to be symbolic and thought-provoking. The finished product is a fully functional gold AK-47 electric guitar. Jimmy DiResta selected the AK-47 assault rifle for their guitar since the AK-47 is said to be the gun of the revolution. It’s in the streets of Chicago to Africa, in the hands of the military and the rebels. It’s an interesting concept and gets people talking.
