Nothing beats a good Beer Can Chicken at a tailgate party, family BBQ or pretty much any alcohol-induced celebration that requires some level of food sustenance in order to maintain a level of coherent conversation. The best part about Beer Can Chicken is it is SIMPLE. Guys like simple and drunk guys love simple. The second best part about Beer Can Chicken is that is combines two of the best things on the planet: Beer and Chicken. That being said, we made an easy to follow “how-to” guide for the best Beer Can Chicken recipe.
4-6lb whole chicken (completely thawed and cleaned)
1/2 can of your favorite beer (room temperature)
2 teaspoons of olive oil
salt and pepper
(optional) dry rub seasoning for chicken
Note: Prior to doing anything, and place a layer of aluminum foil on the rack to prevent the chicken from getting direct heat and for easier cleanup and fire that bad boy up to 375°F.
Clean the chicken. Remove all the giblets and nasty stuff from the inside.
Rub the olive oil on the outside and inside of the chicken.
Add the salt, pepper and optional seasoning.
Forcibly insert the beer can into the chicken’s fourth point of contact.
Prop the chicken up on the grill so that it looks like it’s sitting on the can and close the lid.
Let it cook for about an hour before you check it. After that, keep checking the chicken every 15-20 minutes, until a meat thermometer reads 160°F – 165°F. The total cooking time will varies so just keep on checking that bad boy.
A 4lb chicken usually takes about 1 1/2 hours. Give a little extra time for larger birds.
