It is said that on the 8th day, Man created beer…and there was much rejoicing. No one knows for sure, but that seems about right. One thing is for certain; one visit to The Church Brew Works and you will become a believer.

Located in the former St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, The Church Brew Works has become a staple of the community since owner, Sean Casey, revitalized the historical landmark to its original luster, providing a family friendly environment for locals and out-of-towners alike. The building is huge and can facilitate any size of party.

God made yeast, as well as dough, and he loves fermentation just as dearly as he loves vegetation.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

CBW hails from Pittsburgh’s historical Lawrenceville area and has thrived since pouring its first draft in 1996, winning various medals in the Great American Beer Festival, World Beer Cup and others. Head Brewer, Steve Sloan, creates a wide variety of handcrafted beers from the traditional to unique mad-scientist creations that are sure to shock your senses.

CBW has also received national praise from numerous publications across the country including CNN, USA Today and The Today Show. Not to be outshined, the chefs at CBW give the beer a run for its money. Executive Chef, Jason Marrone, and Sous Chef, Cory Burns, lay out an amazing spread of food that’s fit for the Pope himself.

Recommended Beer

Pious Monk Dunkel…4.30% ABV
Munich-style dunkel lager.

Recommended Food

Chef Jason’s Salmon…$19
Char-grilled and served with lemon-ginger quino salad, maple-soy reduction and grilled oyster mushrooms.

*Note: Their wood fire brick oven pizzas are also the holiest in the city in my opinion.
