On June 6, 1944, Allied forces put an end to the tyranny caused by the Nazis in WWII. What would later be referred to as D-Day was one of the most inspirational and hard-fought battles in American history. By June 11th, the French beaches were fully secured by over 326,000 troops, more than 50,000 vehicles and approximately 100,000 tons of equipment. It was evident to the the Nazis by this point that we we meant business and it was only a matter of time before their reign of terror was kaput. On May 8th, 1945, the Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany and their whack-job leader, Adolf Hitler, had offed himself.
It’s easy to take the freedoms we have for granted. The slippery slope of socialism can lead to the horrors the world encountered in WWII. We must remain steadily on guard for a repeat performance and take a stand against such radicals, for a society which fails to understand where they come from is doomed to repeat the mistakes of their predecessors.
