Kimbo Slice made internet fame with his unsanctioned street fight videos that started to flood YouTube a few years back. In 2007 Kimbo won his 1st professional MMA fight against Bo Cantrell with an early and dominant finish in the 1st round. Post fight, Kimbo called out Tank Abbot who was in the crowd and ended up getting the fight where he again won in the 1st round with a knockout. At this point, Kimbo looked like an untouchable monster.

Kimbo Slice (Boxing)

These fights did not impress UFC President Dana White who would refer to Kimbo Slice as a guy who would always be the toughest at a BBQ. Dana White proved his theory to be true as Seth Petruzelli, Roy Nelson, and Matt Mitrione all beat Kimbo Slice very early on in his MMA career. In the end, Dana White got what he needed out of Kimbo’s fame and ended up slicing his contract with the UFC.

Everybody since then has seemed to forget about Kimbo Slice, the last time he was seen mainstream was in the trailer for The Scorpion King 3. I say trailer because I assume no one actually watched it. But Kimbo Slice did not disappear and in August of 2011 he had his first professional boxing fight. Since then, Kimbo has had 6 more fights with all but one ending in a knockout.

Kimbo Slice

I’ve always said, “Kimbo is an animal who fought with instinct. They tried to implement technique and structure into his fights and as a result, he no longer fought with his instinct and lost.” You can clearly see how much he holds back in his MMA fights (except for his first 3 EliteXC fights.) Boxing however gives him the opportunity to again fight with his natural instinct and so far, it’s been proven. Kimbo Slice is a huge contender for the Heavyweight division of boxing and hopefully could shine some light on that division of the sport again.

Roy Jones Jr. was asked about his thoughts on a fight between him and Kimbo Slice. “Because, you know, he’s been in the ring a lot before, so it ain’t going to take him as long it would take a normal guy. He has a fighting background, so he’s been fighting a long time now, so it won’t take him long. He just needs a quick 2 or 3, maybe 4 fights, and we’ll be ready to throw.”

If you still have your doubts about Kimbo Slice, watch his first 7 professional fights. (Some of the videos are low-quality, sorry, it’s all that was available but you can still see Kimbo fight!)
