Competitive fitness model and nutrition blogger, Maria Kang, recently received some public backlash of femi-nazis and full figured women alike after posting an image of herself in fitness gear with Kang’s three young children (3 yrs, 2 yrs, and 8 months old at the time of the infamous photo). In the photo, Maria poses a question meant at motivating moms to exercise. “What’s your excuse?” is what has been stirring up such a controversy, leaving many mothers outraged that Maria is somehow belittling them for not being physically fit.
Maria has since been featured on Fox News and other channels explaining herself and the “What’s your excuse?” message. In her words, she meant to point out that the obesity epidemic is something all Americans should take seriously, especially for moms as her mother experienced a series of health implications at an early age due to poor eating habits and lack of exercise. Kang’s message was clear. It was intended to motivate moms out there to reach their fitness goals and bounce back from having a baby. It was more of a “If I can do it, so can you.” image, but leave it to members of the Forever Offended clubs to take it out of context and find something to bitch about. The beauty of this entire ordeal is that the outcry from offended women has catapulted the fame of Maria Kang and her blog is gaining tons of new intention, even from us. Keep up the good work, Maria. You’re an inspiration to moms everywhere and provide hope to all of us guys out there that having a baby does not mean letting yourself go.
