This is Anna Kournikova, not Maria Sharapova (but we miss her).

The infamous “tennis grunt” has come into the spotlight over its sexual connotations and is subsequently receiving scrutiny from those who wish to ban it. Top seed, Maria Sharapova (seen above), is said to also claim the award for loudest grunt in women’s tennis, racking in at a whopping 101 decibels. The snobby tennis community and women’s rights activists think tennis grunting is unladylike and overtly sexual in nature. I think it’s the only reason to even watch the sport personally, but who am I?

The Women’s Tennis Association along with the International Tennis Federation and all four major tournaments are seriously proposing new regulations outlawing the tennis grunt. Umpires will have handheld devices that measure on-court grunting levels and will punish players for grunting too loudly. Having never purposely watched a women’s tennis match in my life, this doesn’t directly affect me, but the indirect implications will undoubtedly lead us further down the slippery slope of bowing down to the politically correct powers that be and doing away with common sense altogether.
